Hair Extensions FAQ

Hair extensions look gorgeous and having those extra inches of locks and volume can give any babe a huge confidence boost. We’ve all day dreamed about that glamorous-yet-natural look that hair extensions provide but it’s hard to know if getting extensions is right for you.

So, if you’re thinking about hair extensions for yourself, read on for an overview of what you need to know.

Do I need a consultation?

Yes! Your consultation appointment is when you will discuss all the different options of extensions available. It is the time when you and your pHd stylist will choose which type of extension (i-tip or tape in) fits you best, as well as length and colors. Your stylist will place the order once you've collectively decided on which route to go. To finalize an extension order a deposit will be necessary.

What types of extensions are available?

At pHd we offer two types of extensions. I-tip and tape in. i-tip are small strands that are fastened into your natural hair with a small cylinder.  The hair strands have a polyurethane tip and when coupled with the aluminum cylinder a tight bond is created.

Tape in extensions are small wefts of hair with an adhesive strip at the top of the weft. They are applied to thin slices of hair by sandwiching two wefts above and below the section. This type of extension is meant to give a quick change to your allover hair look. Tape-ins will have a shorter lifespan than the i-tip method.  Perfect for someone who likes to make frequent changes to their hair color and prefers shorter in salon appointments.

If I already have extensions can I come to pHd for maintenance?

Depending on the type of existing extensions we will probably be able to help with your maintenance. A consultation with a pHd extension specialist will help to determine if we can!

How do I know if extensions are right for me?

Have you ever wished for longer or fuller hair?  Are you someone who is pretty good at styling your own hair already?  Would you like to add some fun pops of color?  You might be a great candidate for extensions.

Are extensions bad for my hair?

It’s true... there are certain types of extensions that we believe create undue damage to your hair.  At pHd we use Dreamcatchers Hair Extensions because we believe this is the least damaging extension process on the market.  The application, the superior quality hair, the touch up maintenance plan and your at home product line up are our keys to keeping your hair super healthy!

How often do I have to come back to the salon for touch ups?

It is recommended to schedule extension touch ups every 4-6 weeks.

How long will the extensions implementation appointment take?

Depending on the type of extensions, amount of hair and your stylist, the timing will differ.  It can be anywhere from 2-5 hours for the initial implementation.

What colors are available?

We have a wide range of shades including blonde, brunette, red, ombre and fashion colors.  At your consultation your pHd stylist will pick the perfect mix of shades to match and blend with your hair.

Will the extensions be matched to my hair color?

Yes!  Whether you want to change up your color before implementation or continue with your existing look, we will match the dreamcatchers hair to yours for a seamless blend.  The Dreamcatchers extension hair can be toned on level or darker.  It cannot be lightened.

What kind of products do I need to use at home to keep the hair looking/feeling good?

We’ve got you covered on products for at home maintenance.  If you're looking for longevity of wear it is super important to maintain your dreamcatchers extensions with at home haircare and styling products recommended by your pHd extension specialist.  We recommend a salon quality sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, a daily moisture spray, as well as styling products that have thermal properties to protect from heat.  Following this routine will give your extensions the longest lifespan.

How long will my hair extensions last?

With proper maintenance your i-tip extensions should last up to 12 months.  Tape ins will last 6-8 months.
